(1) Styrene is mainly used as raw materials for polystyrene, synthetic rubber, engineering plastics, ion exchange resins, etc.
 
(2) The most important use of Styrene is as a monomer for synthetic rubber and plastics, used to produce styrene butadiene rubber, polystyrene, styrofoam; Styrene is also used in copolymerization with other monomers to make engineering plastics for many different applications.
 
For example, ABS resin is obtained by copolymerization with acrylonitrile and butadiene, and is widely used in various household appliances and industries; SAN prepared by copolymerization with acrylonitrile is an impact-resistant, bright-colored resin; and copolymerized with butadiene. SBS is a thermoplastic rubber widely used as a modifier for polyvinyl chloride and polypropylene. In addition, a small amount of styrene is also used as an intermediate such as perfume. The chloromethylation of styrene gives cinnamyl chloride as an intermediate for the strong analgesic of non-narcotic analgesics. Styrene is also used as the original drug for the antitussive and anticholinergic stomach Changning.
